Lately, I had the privilege of attending the Salon Carrefour 50 ans + with Société de Saint-Vincent de Paul de Montréal's employees. What a beautiful moment I experienced! Surrounded by Aurélie Côté-Généreux on guitar, I was able to sing a few songs that tell the story of my youth spent in the countryside with my five siblings. I was deeply moved by the audience, so generous and supportive in heart and mind.
As I shared my story, I felt that people were touched. Perhaps I brought back distant memories for some of them? Coming from a large and not very wealthy family, maybe I found an audience who, like me, knows what it's like to be supported at a certain point in life by a charitable effort?
Indeed, throughout my youth, we received food and clothing assistance. Our village's community support center also helped us by providing Christmas baskets every year. I am very grateful to my parents for daring to ask for help. Sometimes, we hesitate due to fear of judgment...
In the coming months, I will have the privilege of writing articles to share my reflections, feelings, and thoughts about that child who was not materially wealthy but rich in joy and love.
One day, my mother said a phrase that stuck with me:
- "Gabrielle! Don't forget, there are people who are very poor in life."
- "Oh really?" I said.
- "Yes, they only have money..."
I found that so profound! It makes you think.
So, filled with gratitude, I tell myself that I am a fortunate woman surrounded by such kindness. Thank you to the wonderful team who make the spokesperson that I am happy. I will continue to carry our message for a long time!
Let's be there for each other.
