ART THERAPY

Because a child who feels good is a child who can learn and grow, the Opération Bonne Mine school perseverance program has been implementing art therapy projects in schools for over 10 years, in collaboration with qualified art therapy professionals. These creative workshops provide students with a safe space to express themselves, explore their identity, and strengthen their self-esteem.

Art thus becomes a powerful intervention tool, fostering a sense of belonging, well-being, and supporting academic perseverance.

Understanding Art Therapy

Art therapy is a recognized approach used in many settings, including education, community work, intercultural programs, social services, and mental health. Within our program, sessions are led by professional art therapists, trained to guide students in a safe and creative environment. Through painting, drawing, collage, and other mediums, young people can express their emotions, explore their inner world, and develop their potential.

Far from being a simple visual arts workshop, art therapy combines artistic expression with personal reflection in a playful and supportive setting. It is also a way to celebrate cultural differences and strengthen connections with oneself and others.

Several positive outcomes have been observed in students:

  • Express themselves freely and better understand themselves

  • Learn to calm down and manage their emotions

  • Develop communication and social skills

"These workshops have been a breath of fresh air in a busy daily routine. I believe they have contributed, to some extent, to the classroom climate and, most importantly, allowed us to see the students from a different perspective."
Amina Kharchi, Teacher, Saint-Justin Elementary School

"Art therapy, combining theater, dance, and visual arts, has had tremendous benefits for both the body and mind of my students."
Caroline Blais, Special Education Teacher – Language Class, Saint-Henri Secondary School

"Our school is located in an underprivileged area, and our students have limited access to cultural experiences. That is why the collaboration, the free expertise, and the services provided are so important to preserve, as they complement the efforts made by the school."
Barbara René, Assistant Principal, Adélard Desrosiers Elementary School
